Every few months I make a new batch of lip balm. The last batch was grapefruit, and that one was really good. I’ve also made peppermint and different variations of that.
This time, I wanted something citrusy but also kind of creamy, so I chose a combination of vanilla and orange to get an orange cream flavor. It turned out well. I even got some human testers to be sure. (When you’re melting and smelling the oils for half an hour, it can mess with your ability to assess it properly.)
Anyway, if you want to make your own, follow the steps below. They make great Christmas (or birthday, etc.) gifts!
Materials Needed for Vanilla Orange Lip Balm
- mini funnel (optional)
- microwavable bowl
- 1oz beeswax
- 1oz jojoba oil
- measuring cup
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 3-4oz unrefined coconut oil
- sweet orange essential oil
- lip balm tubes & caps
A link is provided above to everything you might not be able to get at your local stores.
Step 1: melt the beeswax and oils
Place your beeswax into your bowl and put it in the microwave.
Microwave in 30 second intervals with a few seconds between sessions. This takes about 3 minutes altogether.
Step 2: prepare the tubes
While you’re waiting, line up your lip balm tubes in a container and place the funnel in one of them.
This will prevent you from having to clean up a big mess later.
Step 3: add the remaining oils
Pour in the rest of your oils (coconut, jojoba, vanilla and sweet orange essential oil) and stir well.
This is going to harden quickly so work fast.
Step 4: fill the tubes
Pour the mixture into the tubes and let it harden.
Let it sit for about half an hour before you test it.
You’ll likely get an uneven top. When it’s done, spin it up and cut the top off to even it out if it bothers you.
I got a lot of positive feedback from everyone who tested it. They enjoyed the flavor and the consistency. I’ll never be able to go back to store-bought lip balm.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Yummy. I could use some of that right about now. This the season for chapped lips.
I’ll bring you some home for Christmas 🎄
