DIY Upcycled Travel Tin

accessory travel tin

I always carry hair ties and bobby pins with me when I travel. I think I’ll want to leave my hair down but it just gets irritating, so I pull it up. My hair is so thick that one hair tie doesn’t last very long. A few days, maybe. That’s where my travel tin comes in. I don’t know how I ever traveled without it.

Mint tins are perfect for upcycles like this. The closure works really well, and they hold a decent amount of stuff. Give it shot!

*You can ignore the Diamond Glaze in the image. I have no idea why I left that in there.

Step 1: trace the tin

Line the tin up on the back side scrapbook paper and trace it. I’m showing traces of the top and bottom in the image above. You’ll want to trace the entire tin though, including edges.

Cut them out when you’re done.

Step 2: decorate your travel tin

Line the cutout up on the tin and glue it in place.

Step 3: add a sealant

Add another 1-2 layers of Mod Podge to the scrapbook paper. This will create a sealant that will protect the paper from getting dirty or ripped.

Step 3: glue on the magnet

Cut the magnet into a strip and glue it to the inside of the lid. This will come in handy if you plan to carry bobby pins in your travel tin.

When you’re ready, load up the tin! I like to carry hair ties, bobby pins and barrettes and such in mine, but you can carry whatever you want. It might be a good place to store first-aid kit elements like band-aids, wipes, gauze etc.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Leave them in the comments!

Happy crafting!
