The Tape Artist

A friend shared these with me today. Apparently they are in the YAHOO! Blog.

Mark Jenkins creates these awesome installations out of packaging tape.

“Once I have the finished sculpture, I’ll put it out on the street or in nature or somewhere where it interacts with the environment,” he says in an awesome making-of video (below). “Really it’s the idea of turning the street into a stage , so this urban theater has a life of its own.”

If anyone is interested, Jenkins is judging the Scotch off the Roll Tape Sculpting contest which wraps up March 24th.

  1. I love those carrousel horses, Megan. That was very imaginative to construct them around the trees. I wonder how long they will last, left out in the weather though. Still, an interesting concept. All are cool, but the horses caught my eye.

  2. I’ve used this technique with kids. While the taping part is relatively simple, the challenge of where to put the sculpture and why is always more difficult than expected. These are terrific examples that make ART.
