A few years ago I made my husband, then boyfriend, some beard oil because he was complaining that his beard was getting itchy. He’s gone through a few bottles and it’s worked well. But sometimes he wants something that can be used for styling/taming.
That’s where the beard balm comes in. I wanted a mixture that would moisturize his beard while also taming the facial hair. I came up with a pretty standard combination of ingredients used in lotions and moisturizers. Then I used doTERRA Balance essential oil for scent. The woody smell is wonderful and it’s supposed to promote calmness and relaxation. I don’t know if that works, but it’s a nice thought because he’s a busy busy man.
Beard Balm Supplies
- 1oz Beeswax
- Small container
- 2oz Raw coconut oil
- 1.5oz African Shea Butter
- 10 drops essential oils (not pictured)
- Candle Making Pot (not pictured)
Step 1: combine beard balm ingredients in pot
Portion out your ingredients and combine them all into the candle making pot.
Step 2: melt the ingredients
Put the pot on the stove on medium heat and let it all melt.
This is when you want to add the essential oil. Stir well.
Step 3: pour out the beard oil
Pour the mixture into a small container and let it harden. It will probably take about an hour to harden completely.
When ready, get a little bit of the balm on your hands to soften it up. Then rub hands together and apply to beard.
My husband’s feedback:
- I love the consistency
- It smells good and not too strong
- Works well
I’ll take it!
Hope you enjoy it! As always, I’d love to heard your feedback.
