DIY Cooking Extracts

diy extract: lemon mint orange

You cook or bake, right? I’m not thrilled about doing it, but my New Years resolution is become a better cook. With that in mind, I made my own extracts to cook and bake with. I like the homemade version more because I know what’s in it. When you buy from a store, you might be getting extracts with low-grade alcohol and corn syrup. No thanks.

Last year, I made vanilla extract to test it out and I’ve been using it for a year and love it. Read the whole post

DIY Cranberry Orange Vodka

Hello! I hope everyone had a great holiday. I went on a mini hiatus for a few weeks. This December has been particularly stressful and I needed to take a break and recharge my batteries. Anyway, back to the good stuff. I’m sure you all have exchanged your Christmas gifts and are progressing into the new year, but I have a wonderful DIY gift for you guys. If you have a week, or even a few days, until you’re giving someone a gift and you’re still looking for ideas, make your own cranberry orange vodka. Read the whole post

DIY Orange Cream Lip Balm

diy-orange-cream-lip-balm

Every few months I make a new batch of lip balm. The last batch was grapefruit, and that one was really good. I’ve also made peppermint and different variations of that.

This time, I wanted something citrusy but also kind of creamy, so I chose a combination of vanilla and orange to get an orange cream flavor. It turned out well. I even got some human testers to be sure. (When you’re melting and smelling the oils for half an hour, it can mess with your ability to assess it properly.) Read the whole post

DIY Ribbon Hanging Picture Frames

In the last few weeks I’ve noticed the streets and malls getting busier. You can tell that Christmas is coming up. Unlike most people, you couldn’t pay me to step foot in a mall or shopping center right now.

I have a system. Around Black Friday, I swear off shopping malls and hobby shops. I plan out a month or so of craft projects and DIY gifts, wait for a great coupon and get everything I need in one trip. Read the whole post

DIY Wood Snowman and Scarecrow Reversible Holiday Decor

DIY-snowman-scarecrow-decor-reversible

Some people go all out decorating for the holidays, and it always looks amazing. But I always wonder where the heck the store their decorations in the off season? I have an apartment, so storing decorations is not a viable option.

However, this type of decoration is more my style because it’s a two in one kind of deal… snowman on one side and scarecrow on the other. That means I can use it for more than a month at a time. Read the whole post

DIY Kindness Rocks

DIY-joy-rocks

Have you heard of the Kindness Rock Project? It’s based off of the idea that the right message at the right time can change a person’s life.

I first learned about this, without actually knowing what it was, a few months ago. I was running on a trail that I run on all the time and this brightly colored rock caught my eye. It was bright blue and said “you matter”. I smiled and kept going. Read the whole post

DIY Sweet Orange Fall Candle

There’s a chill in the air and everyone is talking about fall. That means autumn smells are permeating craft stores and Thanksgiving DIY projects are in season.

Every year around this time, I like to make candles. Something about the cold weather makes me enjoy them so much more. This week, that’s exactly what I’m doing. Sweet orange sounded like a good scent since I’m not quite into the cinnamon spice deal just yet.

The candles are really easy to make and won’t take up much of your time. Read the whole post

DIY Halloween Candy Treat Bags

Halloween is right around the corner and trick or treaters are ready for their candy.

Every year, the apartment complex I live in participates in trick or treating for the kids in the building and I always use it as an opportunity to get creative. This year, I’m aiming at the treat bags. Since I have a surplus of Halloween scrapbook paper, this was an ideal project.

It’s a really easy craft and doesn’t take too long. Read the whole post

DIY Upcycled Halloween Candy Bowl

diy upcycled halloween candy bowl

Every year, the kids in my apartment complex get to participate in Trick or Treating. Unfortunately, we’re not home very often and Halloween is no exception. So, I always put a big bowl of candy outside the door and let the kids take what they want.

This year, I decided to upgrade my candy bowl by decorating a old dish washer pod container. Originally, I wanted to make a pumpkin out of it, but I couldn’t find orange Duck Tape anywhere. Read the whole post
