My hair has been short for a while so I haven’t been able to get it into a pony tail. I’ve relied heavily on bobby pins to add flare. But bobby pins are so boring, right?
I wanted to spice them up a bit. Add more color or excitement to them and I’ve always been a fan of wire wrapping, so I combined the wire wrapped jewelry design that I’ve always loved with the bobby pins for a neat hair accessory.
They’re super easy to make and only took about 15 mins altogether. The supplies are cheap too (wohoo)! Want to make your own? Follow the tutorial.
Wire wrapped bobby pin supplies
- beads
- bobby pins
- jewelry wire
- jewelry pliers and wire cutters
Step 1: cut the jewelry wire
Pull your wire out and straighten it as much as possible. It should be about the length of both of your pliers.
Step 2: Thread the wire through the bead and bobby pin
connect the bead to the bobby pin by threading the wire through the bead. Then criss-crossing the edges through the bobby pin.
Step 3: wire wrap the bobby pin
Begin to wrap the wire in a circle around the bobby pin. Be sure to leave a small amount of wire. Wrap that up inside the wrapping to keep from exposing the sharp edges.
If you need to clean up the wire, use your pliers to squeeze everything together a bit.
Repeat until you have as many designed bobby pins as you’d like. Use them when your hair is up or down or gift them to a friend.
Happy crafting!
