There’s been a lot of celebrating lately. Many birthdays, weddings, Mother’s Day and so many more events have happened in short period of time. It has me thinking of fun ways to give gifts. Cardboard boxes and Dollar Store gift bags can be so boring.
I wanted something simple, yet intriguing. That’s why I made this gift bag. I had some scrap fabric in my stash and thought it would be a great start to this new project.
The gift bag doesn’t take long to make and you can do it with or without a sewing machine. Follow the steps below to make your own.
Drawstring fabric gift bag supplies
- needle
- thread
- fabric
- ribbon
- fabric scissors
- safety pin (optional)
Step 1: cut the fabric to size
Cut the fabric to approximately 7×8″.
Iron the fabric to flatten any creases.
Step 2: fold down the top of the fabric
With the inside of the fabric facing upward, fold down the top inch an a half.
Sew across the bottom of the folded piece.
This is going to be the path for the ribbon closure.
Step 3: fold the fabric in half
Fold the fabric in half so the inside of the bag is facing outward.
Sew down the side and across the bottom.
Step 4: string the ribbon through
Fold the bag right-side out.
Here’s where the safety pin comes in. Pin the end of the ribbon and push it through the pathway at the top of the bag. Use the pin to find the ribbon easily and pull it through.
Cut it at a place where it’s long enough to tie a bow.
Place your gift inside the bag and tie it up. You’re all done!
Give your bag to someone special.
