Painting With Sound

Martin Klimas is an awesome photographer. For this series, Martin splatter different colors of paint on a speaker and cranked up the volume. The vibrations from the speaker sent the paint sky high in patterns. For each image, Klimas selected a specific type of music, typically something dynamic and percussive, like Miles Davis or Kraftwerk.

For this series, Klimas spent six months and about 1,000 shots to produce the final images from his studio in Düsseldorf, Germany. Read the whole post

“I Have a (Puzzling) Dream”

Pete Fecteau used over 4,000 Rubik’s Cubes to create this 18′ 6″ x 9′ 8″ mosaic of Dr. Martin Luther King. Apparently Rubik’s-based artwork is a “thing.” There’s Rubik’s Einstein, Lincoln, Sitting Bull, Kathy Lee and Hoda(?). There’s even a name for the genre: Rubikcubism. Visit the source.

Julia Davis: The Greatest Oddity

I don’t know much about this girl except that she is from Australia, her name is Julia Davis and she likes Stephen King. I found her photography on Deviant Art a while ago and have been following her ever since. She has a different way of capturing light, angles, etc and it intrigues me. Visit her Deviant Art page for more work.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar ChildrenMiss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was one of the most imaginative books I have ever read. I thought it was amazing.

If you would prefer to read something realistic, then this is not the book for you. BUT if you are open to some adventure and some storytelling you are about to embark on an unexpected ride. Ransom Riggs is the type of writer that can hold on to childhood wonder and fears and turn them into a reality. Read the whole post

Atomic: Full of Love, Full of Wonder

I just found pictures of the installation and have never seen it before. It was created in 2005 so I apologize if you have already seen this. Some of you may have.

This installation, Atomic: Full of Love, Full of Wonder, was an installation by Nike Savvas at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art in Melbourne. It is comprised of bouncy balls in many colors and shapes that are suspended to create a dense field of color. Read the whole post

The Tape Artist

A friend shared these with me today. Apparently they are in the YAHOO! Blog.

Mark Jenkins creates these awesome installations out of packaging tape.

“Once I have the finished sculpture, I’ll put it out on the street or in nature or somewhere where it interacts with the environment,” he says in an awesome making-of video (below). “Really it’s the idea of turning the street into a stage , so this urban theater has a life of its own.” Read the whole post
