DIY Decorative Scrapbook Paper Pins

DIY decorative scrapbook paper pins

Before I get started with this week’s Make Something Monday’s craft project, I have to tell you a story.

After I finished taking my pictures for these DIY pins, I was talking to my boyfriend and not paying any attention to what I was doing. I stuck my camera card into the CD slot in my laptop instead of the camera card slot and it disappeared. I was freaking out. How the heck am I going to get this thing out of my computer??? My smart boyfriend, suggested that I use a toothpick to pull the camera card out. How brilliant is he? So, I tried it and it worked. Make Something Mondays almost didn’t happen today.

Moving on…

I got the idea for these pins because my boyfriend is opening up a brewery and needed some promotional materials to sell at a Brewfest that’s taking place this weekend. We decided to make some pins, magnets, T-shirts and hats. To save money, I offered to make the pins and magnets. The pins looked pretty cool, so I wanted to make a craft project out of them. (I’ll post all of the stuff I made for it when I’m finished with everything.)

These are very easy to make and, outside of drying time, only takes about 10 minutes.

Things You Will Need:
Pin blanks
Diamond Glaze
Scrapbook paper
Dimensional Magic
2 coasters (optional)
Scissors or 1″ hole punch

Step 1
Cut out the scrapbook paper of your choice into 1 inch circles (or to whatever size your pin blanks are).

Step 2
Using your Diamond Glaze, adhere the scrapbook paper circle to the pin blank.

Let it dry for a few minutes.

Step 3 (optional)
Since the pins won’t lay flat, I highly recommend that you prop them up between two even surfaces. I chose coasters because I know they’ll be the same height. I also put a paper towel down so that I don’t get any glaze on my coasters.

Step 4
Fill in the scrapbook paper circle with Dimensional Magic.

It’s going to have a very foggy appearance for a while but, after the recommended drying time of 3 hours, it will clear up and harden.

If you get any bubbles, use a safety pin to pop them before the glaze starts to harden.

After the first layer has dried, you can continue to add more layers.

When you’re finished, you’ll have some really cute, decorative pins to put on your purse, tote bag, hat or wherever else you can think of.
